Prevention vs Removal

PREVENTION VS REMOVAL

WEED CONTROL

Having to remove weeds can be frustrating and the best form of weed control is prevention rather than removal. You will find various tactics for weed removal, but there are also plenty of things you can do to prevent them appearing in the first place and prevention is always better than removal.

Maintain a Healthy Lawn

Maintaining a healthy and thick lawn is the best way to prevent weeds from appearing. By having a healthy and dense lawn, you allow no room for weeds to grow in the soil and ultimately prevent weeds from forming.

Likewise, you want to minimise any bare spots on the lawn. By having a bare patch, the soil is exposed which then allows weeds to access the soil and grow. As and when you get a bare patch,
re-seed it as soon as possible.

Don’t Cut Your Lawn Short

One of the most common causes of weeds appearing is by mowing your lawn too short. By cutting it short, it exposes the soil to the air and allows for weeds to enter the soil.

On the contrary, if you keep your lawn a little longer, it will prevent weeds from infiltrating the lawn and giving an all-round healthier lawn.

Keep on Top of Weeds

A small and newly established weed is much easier to remove than a larger weed which has successfully taken root. The smaller weed will clear with one treatment, whereas a larger weed may well take a couple of treatments before it is successfully cleared.

Because it is also bigger, it then opens up the possibility of creating a bare patch after it is removed. This bare patch can then be prone to more weeds growing until it has been re-seeded successfully.

Furthermore, as long as the weed is in the lawn, there is the possibility that it will spread and create additional weeds throughout the lawn. So, as soon as you spot them, get them removed.
